- Photo - The earlier influx of crew for the 100 mile riders almost
completely emptied the water troughs. Because the water truck was on the other side of the mountain filling troughs at other locations,
management formed a volunteer "bucket brigade" to fill the Curtis Field water troughs from a deep mountain stream only yards away,
and get it done in time for the arrival of the 50 milers.
This vet check was used by both the 100 milers twice, and the 50 milers once. In the heat, lots of water was needed. Fortunately, management snatched
six brand new 35 gallon plastic trash cans from base camp and raced out to Curtis Field (23 miles away) to
serve as "transport" for the stream water to fill the three 200 gallon water troughs used by the competitors.
in record time.
